This homemade peach cobbler is traditional to the recipes that originated in the South. Which reminds me of my grandma’s recipe she would make in the summer.

You can serve this dessert straight from the pan to the serving dish once it’s cooled slightly. Topping the dessert is optional but, adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream makes a wonderful combination. The warm peach cobbler with the ice cream and enhances the peach flavors.

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • ¼ cup of heavy cream
  • ¼ cup of water
  • ½ cup of unsalted butter, chilled
  • 1 egg white, whisked with 2 tablespoons of water

How To Make Peach Cobbler

Directions

  1. Place the top oven rack in the center position and pre-heat oven to 400°F.
  2. Add peaches, sugar, lemon juice, flour, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract to a large bowl and toss to combine.
  3. Transfer to a greased 8” x 8” baking pan and spread into an even layer. Sprinkle brown sugar on (top of) the peach mixture before placing the pan in a preheated oven. Bake for 10 minutes.
  4. Add flour, ½ cup of sugar, salt, and baking powder to a different bowl and stir to combine. Chop chilled butter into (very) small pieces with a sharp knife. Add to bowl and mix with dry ingredients with your fingers until small pebble-sized pieces are formed.
  5. Add heavy cream and water to the flour mixture and stir with a fork until all the dry ingredients are moist and somewhat sticky. Do not overwork dough.
  6. Remove the baking pan from the oven and carefully spoon the dough over the top, ensuring the dough is the same thickness throughout. Leave spaces in between, as pictured, for a more no-fuss, country-style look.
  7. Return to oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the topping begins to brown. Remove from the oven, then brush the top with the egg white wash and sprinkle the remaining sugar (on top). Return to oven to finish baking, another 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven when the top is evenly golden brown.
  8. Allow the pan to cool slightly before serving (on its own). Top with whipped cream or (vanilla) ice cream. Enjoy!

Can you replace fresh peaches with canned peaches in cobbler? YES!

  • Drain the liquid from the peaches before adding them to the recipe.
  • Canned peaches are sweetened and you may want to reduce the sugar. This way it won’t be overly sweet.
  • Using canned peaches you may need to add cornstarch to help thicken the cobbler.

  • 1/3 cup of white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice (or real lemon)
  • 2 teaspoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar (packed)

Notes

Watch the cobbler at the end of the bake time. You may need an additional 5 minutes (or less time) depending on your oven and altitude. Find tips for substituting with canned peaches on the post.
