Strawberry Trifle is a great summer dessert because it’s so light and airy! This recipe for strawberry trifle is easy and delicious. The pudding mixture is not too sweet as to overpower the dessert. Depending upon your location in the country, strawberries are in season during the spring, summer and are perfect for desserts like this one!
This could be made for a Memorial Day or Fourth of July celebration – you could even add blueberries for patriotic coloring!
Strawberry Trifle
INGREDIENTS for making a strawberry trifle
- 1 cup cold milk
- 1 cup { 8 oz.} sour cream
- 1 pkg instant vanilla pudding mix
- 1 tsp grated orange peel
- 2 cups heavy whipped cream, whipped
- 8 cups cubed cake {angel
, sponge
, yellow
}
- 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries
INSTRUCTIONS:
How to make Strawberry Trifle
1. In a large bowl, beat the milk, sour cream, pudding mix and orange peel on low speed.
2. In a separate bowl {electric or hand}, beat the whipped cream until fluffy and then fold in carefully to the pudding mixture and set aside.
3. Make a cake {angel, sponge, yellow} according to the cake recipe ingredients. Cut the cake into about one-inch squares and set aside.
4. Thinly slice your strawberries vertically and set aside.
5. Assemble your trifle!
- 1st layer – cake squares
- 2nd layer – pudding mixture
- 3rd layer – strawberries along the outside edge and inside.
6. Remember to end your layering with the pudding mixture on top and a dollop of strawberries in the middle!
This can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to a couple days before your event or gathering.
- This will serve about 12 people having hefty sized helpings.

Now that looks really tasty! The colors are so inviting. The summer’s not gone yet. There’s still time to fix this recipe. However, I’m not sure if I’ve seen a lot of strawberries in season at this time. I’ll have to check. A trifle dish is always pretty!
