How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
What I love about making cookie bars is that you just mix all the ingredients up in your mixer or large mixing bowl and push them onto a sheet pan. Press them down evenly and bake. Making cookie bars is so easy!
Step 1. First cream your butter, brown sugar and vanilla extract.
Step 2. Next add the flour slowly with salt added in.
Step 3. Mix in chocolate chips and chopped nuts.
Step 4. Pour the cookie dough onto your sheet pan or baking sheet.
Step 5. Flatten the dough with your hands. Don’t make it overly thick. Smoothness or perfection not needed. Keep the dough in a uniform thickness and ensure outer edges are the same height (or higher according to original author).
- Step 6. Bake at 325 degrees until done.
How long to bake bar cookies?
Baking Notes: Check on the baking process towards the end of your bake time. Start checking every five to ten minutes after the initial 20 minutes has passed. It took over 30 minutes to bake my batch of cookie bars.
If not done, continue to bake until lightly browned on top and bottom. If not browned the dough is not baked fully. The first time I pulled them out at twenty minutes they were no where near done. Back in they went, until browned. It’s best to check as you go along to get the perfect bar cookies.
How to cut bar cookies
Let the cookie bars cool slightly. Cut them into bite sized bars you can hold in your hands. Serve after they are completely cooled. You can store them to serve later in a air tight storage container *after they are completely cooled.
