Fish Tacos With Homemade Avocado Sauce – I thought I would share a recipe from one of my weekly meal plans. I know putting together a full week’s meal plan can be time-consuming. Accommodating everyone’s tastes, likes, and must-haves. It’s like juggling and I often was finding it overwhelming. This week’s recipe was one of the fish recipes I wanted to try to see if it was good enough for our meal plan list. And happy to say it was!

Hopefully, these meal plan recipes will help make your week a bit easier and stress-free! Pick a recipe and use the meal plan recipes as you like, but what it will give you are some go-to recipes to break the cycle of repeating the same old recipes again and again. Looking for a different recipe to cook? See our Recipe Index filled with easy recipes.

We often like to have fish once a week. It’s easy to cook. Our favorite is white fish like tilapia fillets or cod. You can also use halibut or salmon fillets for this recipe. I often find that fish tacos are a great way to get kids into eating fish too.

Fish Tacos with Avocado Sauce Recipe

This recipe has a delicious avocado sauce! You’ll be using leftovers on your salads the next day! If there is any leftover.

The recipe is very easy to make. What’s not to like about easy? I didn’t have time to take my own photos. I need to plan and remake this to take photos.

This isn’t a recipe where you have to go out and purchase a lot of items to make it. You are most likely to have on hand all the spices, cloves of garlic, and a few other items stocked in your fridge if you cook regularly. We always have lettuce on hand as we try to eat a lot of veggies.

Fish Tacos with Avocado Sauce

We prefer corn tortillas over flour. The original calls for flour. There is also a salsa recipe you can make to go with this recipe. I didn't make it. I have made this without the marinade before too and it's tastes just fine.Optionally you can use low fat mayo & sour cream. Prep Time 30 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • Olive Oil 1 tablespoon
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 pound halibut or tilapia fillets
  • Corn tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • Cilantro washed & chopped
  • SAUCE:
  • 2 medium ripe avocados divided
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup Best Foods mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 teaspoon dill weed
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • Dash cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the lemon juice, oil and garlic. Add the halibut; seal bag and turn to coat. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. (Optional)
  2. For sauce peel and cube avocados. In a small bowl, mash 1/4 cup avocado. Stir in the remaining sauce ingredients. Place remaining avocado in a small bowl. Refrigerate sauce until serving.
  3. Drain fish and discard marinade. Broil halibut 4-6 in. from the heat for 8-10 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork. ( I have cooked my fish on the stove in olive oil. Either way cook until flakes with a fork. Do not over cook.
  4. Place fish on the center of each tortilla. Top each with 1/4 cup lettuce, about 1 tablespoon sauce and optional 1/4 cup salsa. We used cilantro and lime to garnish tacos with too.

Recipe Notes

When making the salsa!

Note: Wear disposable gloves when cutting hot peppers; the oils can burn skin. Avoid touching your face.

  1. I like this Theresa! I have Talipia in my freezer. It is getting so hard to come up with different things to fix for dinner. Normally, I’ve been fixing the same thing with Talipia. Usually, it’s Talipia (fried) and then covered with a pepper mix sauce. Definitely, need to try this….

    1. Hi Sharon, I know what you mean, that was the whole reason I started sharing recipes I’ve made or tried for meal planning. Which is even harder with a picky eater in the house. The pepper sauce sounds good too. I think you’ll love it! Thanks for dropping by.

  2. Hey Theresa! This look wonderful! My brother loves fish tacos, I will have to make this for him the next time he comes for a visit!
