Dear Creatives, We had our break-out summertime celebration for Sammie’s School Year ending! Celebrations don’t always have to be extravagant, include the whole extended family or just be reserved for a weekend. Sometimes it’s the little things that need to get celebrated. In this case a year of learning & growing! This break-out summer celebration included a day trip, shopping & coming home to make a lovely BBQ! The best thing about having #SummerGrilling trial is that you can test out the recipes for your big gatherings & we have tons of big ones in the summer! So let me share my day & experience with you! At the end of the post a contest you can enter with some great prizes!

Here are a few pictures from our day trip to San Luis Obispo, the train station, shopping at Smart & Final and of course sharing our summer go to favorite recipes for BBQ in the summer, along with our #SummerGrilling!

First we had to jump in the car for a little day trip our local Smart & Final is in the nearest big town which is San Luis Obispo, CA. I love excuses to go there its such a lovely drive.

First Stop Smart & Final

Our first destination was Smart & Final to grab some groceries for the BBQ. I love that you can see the sign from far away with its bold red & white lettering. The lot is beautifully landscaped at our store.

Let me show you a few pictures from my shop then you can see the rest in my album. When you first arrive at the store & enter you are at the produce section. Smart & Final carries some produce that my local store doesn’t & the prices where great, quantities larger which I love because we love our veggies!

Now the BBQ needed some meat & we browsed the meat sections checking out selections. They have a large selection including center fridges & this isle is very long!

We decided on Cattleman’s Finest Tri Tip to create a Santa Maria Style BBQ! We walked around grabbing up the other items needed & then off for a stop on the way home before cooking! {do visit my album if you would like to see the whole shopping experience along with all the food preparation photographs visit my Google+ Album; there are so many photos!}

Now before we headed up the mountain drive home we wanted to see if the new train museum had opened. It hadn’t but we did see some trains which is always fun! We can’t wait to take Sammie to the museum when it opens, it is part of Central Coast’s History along with Santa Maria Style BBQ’s.

We went home & prepared the meat & let the flavors meld in a Santa Maria Style Meat Rub. That is when I prepared the side dishes. Here are a few photo’s but like I mentioned see the album for them all.

We BBQ the meat & every time it turns out tender & juicy. Honestly Cattleman’s Finest Beef is the best meat I have found & was perfect for this recipe & others.

Top sliced beef with Pico De Gallo.

Grilled Corn, Santa Maria style beans & Cattleman’s Finest Beef made Santa Maria style.

Sammie couldn’t even wait for veggies to start eating. The next time I made it for my family & added a Potato Salad with Caramelized Onions & Roasted Chile Vinaigrette.

Fun times are always had with family! Barbecuing with half the family here can you image gatherings twice the size? They are made easy with shopping at Smart & Final! They enjoyed Cattleman’s Finest Beef made Santa Maria Style & were all smiles. Now let me share the recipes with you, so you along with your family can enjoy a Central California Santa Maria Style Meal & spice up your BBQ! You will be able to print the recipes or save them with changes & grab some others right here on DearCreatives.com

Recipes:

Grilled Corn on the Cob

Santa Maria Pinquito Beans *I used this recipe but purchased precooked, canned beans from Smart & Final so I wouldn’t have to soak beans & the recipe take so long. The only other adjustment I made was I didn’t add ham.

Santa Maria Style Tri Tip Recipe notes: I followed this recipe only I made adjustments. Use gloves when spreading spices across your Cattleman’s Finest Beef. Recipe with changes added in easy to save or print template is just below in the post.

Santa Maria Style Tri Tip Recipe with adjustments:

2-3lb Cattleman’s Finest Top Sirloin Tri Tip Roast

1 tbs. black pepper, 2 tsp. garlic powder, 1 tsp. onion powder, 1 1/2 tsp. paprika, 1 tsp dried rosemary ( I use fresh ) 1/2 cayenne, 1tsp. salt

Mix together the black pepper, garlic, onion, paprika, cayenne, rosemary, and salt and rub on the meat. Let stand at 1-4 hours

When grilling baste with a mixture of 1/2 wine vinegar & 1/c olive oil. Since we use a gas grill we use half that amount & pan our meat uncovered.

Grill until there is an internal temp. of at least 140*

If using a charcoal grill use water soaked oak chips or mesquite chips to produce smoke.
