We have been baking the Inn Keepers Piefor years. It is a holiday pie recipe that honestly can be made for any celebration. I followed a pie recipe from Hershey’s called InnKeepers Pie or also known as Colonial Inn Keepers Pie. This pie has a delicious pie crust, a cake filling with a combination of chocolate baked into it.
This cake has a vanilla cake and a chocolate layer. I shared the process in this older post where I referred to it as a pake. Part pie, part cake.
Our family has a version of this pie made with a graham cracker crust. Both are delicious. I shared in the previous post how I made the crust step by step. Also, you can see my pie images. That is a no-fail, amazing recipe for pie crust and part of Hershey’s recipe. I used chopped pecans, but walnuts can also be used. We like to serve this pie for fall celebrations such as Thanksgiving and holidays such as Christmas…
Inn Keepers Pie
Recently, Sammie did a test run of making the InnKeeper’s Pie. She’s celebrating with friends, and she goes to college out of state. Instead of using a pie pastry crust, she used a pre-made graham cracker crust. Our family’s favorite version doesn’t include chopped nuts, and we prefer a graham cracker crust.
I’ll share an updated recipe soon. But, honestly, you can use this recipe and substitute a pre-made or homemade graham cracker crust instead of a homemade pie (pastry) crust to make this pie.
When the pie is cooled and ready to be cut. We slice and plate it, topping it with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Below is how it looks using nuts in the recipe and a pastry crust (this is from an older post). My goal is to find my mom’s recipe for Innkeepers Pie and make a new post with pretty photos!
Part Cake Part Pie! With chocolaty goodness!
