Hey ladies, what is your office space like? I am working on my office space, and have been dreaming of creating a better home office. Are you looking for home décor ideas for your office space too?

Home Office Ideas
Of course it would be nice to have a dedicated home office. But, we don’t always have that luxury. Despite that fact, I know I can make an office space that makes me feel like a real girl boss. If you are like me? Need a better, cleaned up office space? I’m here to support your efforts to get the perfect girl boss dream office too. These ideas will work for a shared work office, or dedicated work office space.
How do you balance a living space – office work space?
Balancing living – work spaces can be tricky. For me, I either can have my desk in the living room area. Or clear a space in the guest-craft room making it crowded. Which isn’t the best choice.
Right now, I’m choosing to be in the kitchen. For several reasons it’s nearby the perfect lighting, where I need to take my photo shots. Since I try recipes, blog food, and crafts, and lifestyle it makes sense to have my office space where all the action is. I’m going to make it pretty, and make it work. I promise to take the ugly before/and pretty after photos. You pick the perfect spot in your home for your office needs but, consider some of the musts when creating your office space.
Are you with me? First….grab a comfortable chair, and maybe your coffee to sip on.
What’s first when creating your home office space?
- Make sure it’s in an area that doesn’t get too cold or hot
- Good natural lighting for daytime, but not too bright
- Decide on the area you’ll use, and get the best use of your office
- Measure your space
- Map out you must haves
- Make your plan
- Shop for items you need to create your dream space
- Set up your new home office
Home office goals include
- Create a stylish area
- Have a file cabinet for paperwork if you need to store business paperwork
- Have a more organized space, with minimal items on the desk area. For clarity, and focus when working. (This is a biggie for me)
- Add good lighting for working at night
Stylish Comfy Office Chair
Yes! I’ve been eyeing this hour glass swivel office chair for ever at Pier 1 Finally, it went on sale. I didn’t have the desk picked out but, I decided to get the office chair any way.
Why? First, I needed a comfy office chair. and I had sat in it every time I visited the home décor store. Each time telling Sammie, “I wish I had a pretty office chair like this.” Walking away, wishing I had gotten it every time.
Boxes that this office chair ticked
- Super comfy
- Swivel
- Adjustable height
- Worthy of a space not tucked away in a corner. Meaning pretty!
Today, I might be feeling a bit more bossy after getting it. Get it? lol
Now, to put the rest of my office together. I’ve been looking at a desk from the Metro Collection but, there are several other styles I am considering. More feminine? Glam? Vintage inspired? Or modern?
Are you looking too? See the desks, and even a few more chairs here. If you pop over you’ll see why I am having trouble deciding on a new desk. The alternate option is using a vintage sewing desk the Mr. picked up for me in a yard sale. Hmmm. Dual purpose?
My favorite office idea – I love the idea of putting two desks together for Sammie, and I to work at together. Drool! I can see her studying on one side, and me working on the other. Then when we work on projects we are right there, together. (see image 4) She’d probably think that’s too much mom daughter time. Lucky for her we don’t have the space, right now.
I did decide to get this rug, that has a pop of color. It comes in neutrals too; ivory, or bronze. I have been crushing on glam for the top of the desk and, picked out a few office décor items below. A girl has to have a little bling right?
I ended up getting my mid century modern desk somewhere else. I can’t wait to show you how my transformation is coming. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss out on my office space transformation.
Bookcase and Storage options for a home office
- Tall Cabinet with Sea Grass Baskets
- Mid Century Modern Cabinet (this is what I’m currently crushing on for our home to tuck away all my supplies)
- Farmhouse Style Cabinet with basket inserts
A bookcase or chest is great for organization, especially when used with pretty baskets, or file holders, and storage bins.
- Use baskets, or get cabinets with baskets for storage.
- Organize your paper work with files, and store in pretty magazine/file holders
- Keep stuff organized in stylish collapsible storage bins
- Bamboo Nesting Baskets
- Modern Lux File Cabinet
Must have’s for a girl boss office
- Copper Baskets in various sizes
- Pretty lumbar pillow
- Gold Desk Organizer
- Gold Modern Magazine Holder (for all your inspiration)
- Gold Paper Tray (for all your incoming or outgoing)
- Over the door 3 basket or 5 basket organizer. I love it’s farm-house style.
- Agate Photo Clip or use it for a Memo Clip
Desk Top Organization is Key
Seasonal Desk Top Décor is always optional but, adds a nice touch. I love the idea of having a big basket or two, for throw blankets, odds n’ends. If it gets cold in the room you can grab your throw from the basket. I also have the dogs, and cats who love to sleep nearby. It’s nice to have a basket to toss in their stuff when company comes.
I’ve been crushing on this Kate Spade Pen/Pencil Cup . And teetering on buying her 4 piece acrylic office set , along with her matching scissor/staple remover set. Talk about, whistling while your working. When my mouth is dry from all my working – (or whistling) I grab coffee, and this is the new coffee mug I’ve been crushing on I grabbed.
I can’t wait until I have my space all set up to show you. Our home is a work in progress. What about yours? Do you have a dedicated office space? Or are you planning to create a living-work space?
