Easy Step by Step #DIY Homemade Barbecue Sauce for Grilled Recipes
Today I wanted to share with you how easy it is to make homemade barbecue sauce. With grilling season here it’s the perfect time to use my recipe and try this easy DIY kitchen project to make your own homemade barbecue sauce! Seriously folks it’s super easy. You don’t have to be a chef or foodie to make BBQ sauce! You just have to grab a few supplies, chop a few ingredients, add the hero ingredients and simmer them all in a pot for a short time. Today let me share how easy it is for you to make!
You can bottle this up gift dad for Father’s Day, use it for a housewarming gift, bring to a barbecue anytime or just use it yourself. Do you have 30 minutes? It’s quick and easy! You can make adjustments easily to suit your taste or thickness preferences. A little thicker sauce equals less dripping and fire flare ups.
Check your pantry prior to going to the grocery store for supplies. You’ll have a lot of the things you need on hand if you cook! (recipe at bottom of post)
Of course one of the heroes of this sauce is the mighty jalapeno. If you seed the jalapeno it will decrease the spiciness or heat. I made mine on the milder side. But, leaving the seeds in and adding spices like cayenne can kick up the heat. Rinse your jalapenos off and get them ready for chopping!
You need to mince your jalapeno, garlic and onion really small. You can also use a food processor if you like. Drop these ingridients into a pot. Next saute them with oil and add 2 tablespoons of butter.
Add your tomato sauce, tomato paste, cider vinegar, orange juice, dry mustard, brown sugar, spices and other recipe ingredients. Stir occasionally while on a simmer. Let the flavors marry. To thin sauce use lime juice and water.
Another hero is the Chile Powder you can find this deep dark Chile powder called Chile En Polvo in the Mexican section of your grocery store. If it’s not available try this Ground Pasilla Chili Powder which you can order online. If you like yours with heat you can substitute with Tampico Hot Chile Powder (Chile En Polvo Picante)
