Are you ready to make turkey burgers? We love hamburgers but, it’s nice to swap out the ground beef for turkey. It’s a lighter, healthier choice. This ground turkey burger recipe is a 30-minute meal. Not only is it perfect for nights when you are busy, but it’s great for school nights, cooking a quick dinner after work, and…

Turkey Hamburgers With Green Salsa

Turkey Burger with green salsa and avocado topping spread. Recipe at dearcreatives.com

We adapted today’s recipe from Rachel Ray’s Everyday. Her recipe was called Salsa Verde Turkey Burger and was published back in 2011. What I loved about this recipe is with the avocado spread. It made the turkey taste amazing and you didn’t even know that it wasn’t a ground beef recipe. It’s good to swap ingredients out and go lighter now and then. Don’t you think? Would you rather grill? Try this cheeseburger recipe. And if you have ground chicken use the stovetop recipe at the end of this post.

Are you looking for a ground turkey recipe Cook ground turkey burgers on the stovetop. It's quick, easy, and delicious. Add a guacamole topping or your favorite toppings on a toasted bun. Get the turkey burger recipe at DearCreatives.comGround turkey is budget-friendly to cook and has a leaner protein. The recipe serves four but, can be doubled easily. Ingredients are ground turkey, avocado, garlic cloves, cilantro, hamburger buns (Rachel Ray used Kaiser rolls and I like it that way too. I’ve made this several times for the family.) and called for salsa verde. I used La Victoria Taco Sauce instead. It’s a green sauce, similar to salsa verde, and what I had on hand.

How to make Avocado Spread

First, you want to gather your ingredients and spices.

  1. Salt, pepper, and optional onion salt.
  2. Next, peel an avocado or two, and add them to a bowl.
  3. Then, add mayonnaise (my favorite is Best Foods) and finely chopped garlic (or crushed if you prefer).

We love garlic so we added more. Adjust the recipe to suit your taste. But, it’s one avocado to one garlic clove proportion in her recipe. Lightly, salt and pepper. Smash the avocados until smooth. Set to side.

HOW TO MAKE TURKEY BURGERS

turkey hamburgers - DearCreatives.com Mixing up these turkey burgers is so easy.

  1. Mix ground turkey and salsa, do not over-add the salsa to your ground turkey meat. Or they will fall apart when cooking!
  2. Shape into hamburger sizes.
  3. Spray the non-stick pan lightly with cooking spray (like Pam or Olive Oil).
  4. Add your formed patties into a non-stick skillet on a medium-high heat.
  5. Cook the turkey burgers on each side for at least 4-5 minutes depending on their (thickness) size.
  6. When they have cooked on each side, and almost reached the proper internal temperature (165F) add cheese slices to the top of the burgers.
  7. Cover the pan, and melt the cheese.
  8. Remove from the pan when done.

Recipe Notes: We used Monterey Jack cheese but, you can use pepper jack, sharp cheddar, or your favorite. Melt cheese by adding the cheese to the top of the cooked turkey burger, then add a lid to the pan you are using. It will only take a few minutes for the cheese to melt. Remove from the heat when done.

Toast the hamburger buns in a toaster.

Toast your hamburger buns. Do this in a toaster or the oven on the rack or a baking sheet. Or leave it untoasted if you prefer. I toasted my hamburger buns in my toaster.

Next, Spread the avocado topping on the bottom of the hamburger bun.
