Greek Goddess Artemis Costume DIY – Easy Halloween Idea
I made this Greek goddess Artemis costume for my daughter. Sammie loves unique costume ideas. She was conjuring up some ideas of a fairy-huntress. She settled on the idea of being Artemis, “Artemis of the wild-land, Mistress of Animals,” A Greek Goddess; her Roman equivalent is Diana.
This Greek goddess Artemis costume was inspired by classical mythology and designed to look authentic while still being easy to recreate for Halloween or a school project. I’ll show you how I made the dress without a pattern, created the quiver and bow, and styled the accessories to complete the goddess look.
I hope you are inspired to make your own Artemis costume DIY. There are quite a few ways you can make it easily. I've shared how we made ours and also a few other tutorials and patterns to help you create your own costume for Halloween or Cosplay. We have shared those below, too.

Apparently, I am not smarter than a 5th grader when it comes to one who has been reading Greek Mythology, or at least on this topic. So I had to ask her who that was and if (Sammie) could show me some images of this Greek mythology costume. This is where we began, of course, we searched for images on Google of the Artemis goddess.

How we made the Artemis Costume
Bow, Arrow, and Quiver

Her dad created the bow from a branch, and I added the stringing. Then created the arrows from birch sticks and feathers we had collected from our nature walks.
Sammie had collected the stones and had broken them into the arrow shapes.
The headdress was also made from feathers and leather scraps.

Our Artemis Costume

For our version of the costume, the Artemis dress is a long shirt to be worn with leggings underneath.
I didn't have time to show how I made this in a step-by-step tutorial. But here is how I made the costume.
- I did take muslin, cutting out a pattern by laying a shirt over the muslin fabric, then marking it with a disappearing fabric pen.
- For the length, I took a pair of shorts and laid it on the fabric and traced it to the bottom, extending the shirt line.
- I folded the material in half and cut two, then sewed them together (after fitting and pinning to ensure I had the correct sizing). You can see the muslin inside the dress, which doesn't show when it's on.
I had this sheer fabric (sheer luck lol) from a dress I never made!
I laid it over the muslin in different areas, connecting it and sewing it onto the muslin by machine and also by hand. It took only one evening.
Although our rescue kitten loved the fabric and decided to climb it un-attaching part, which I had to sew back the next day! Naughty kitty!! Sammie is wearing a cape over it, so I wasn't too concerned about perfection.

She went shopping with her dad. They purchased an inexpensive cape shown above, which I may alter slightly. That is also when she picked up her shiny white wig. I decided to do a test run with her goddess makeup and share it all!
How I Made the Quiver
An arrow case is called a quiver (a small cylinder in which to store your fletched arrows). It usually has a back strap attached to it.)
I made one by making a cylinder shape from poster board, then attaching a bottom. Then I covered it with burlap and leather.
Now she is ready for an evening of fun, and there is sure to be a sugar hangover the next day! lol Below are some helpful patterns and ready-made costumes for Artemis. I hope this inspires you to make and sew your own costumes for Halloween or Cosplay.
