Movie Review Urban Hymn (2017) Story Of A Social Worker And One Girl Whose Voice Is Found
It’s been a while since we have done a movie review, or shared an entertainment post. Recently I had a chance to preview a new release Independent movie, Urban Hymn. The movie has adult content. This movie has a NR (not rated) rating. Personally, I think it would be rated R due to it’s storyline and content. The movie Urban Hymn, is in theaters and on demand since May 12th, 2017. Urban Hymn is a drama -music and runs 114 minutes.
The movie’s story starts out with cussing, violence and showing troubled teen life of some teens under the care of a treatment center. Then moves onto social workers trying to help these teens. There is a juxtaposition between angry verses soft, sweet and tender moments. The performances are done really well.
Movie Review Urban Hymn
Urban Hymn’s story-line follows a troubled teen. Her name is Jamie (Letitia Wright), she has an amazing singing voice. Shirley Henderson (who played moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter) plays her unconventional social worker (key worker), Kate.
Kate has to gain her trust, then encourages her to use her voice. As the movie moves on Kate shares details of her life in order to reach Jamie. Their common thread, the love of music.
Jamie is encouraged to escape her troubled background through using her talent, her voice. Yet her loyalties are torn between Kate and her possessive friend. Not only is her friend possessive but she is very troubled and has a volatile personality. Her best friend is Leanne (Isabella Laughland). Leanne is always getting into more trouble.
Urban Hymn also shares the struggles social workers have in helping. But, given the ok Kate gets to bring Jamie to a community choir to try out. Kate refuses to give up on Jamie, through her twist, turns and both good/bad choices and despite the hold that Jamie has on her.
Find out the ultimate change that helps Jamie onto a new path, with the help of Kate and what ensues for a bitter, sweet ending.
