Who is ready to spruce up their home décor? I sure am. Besides the few remodel areas we are about to finish up this spring I decided I was ready to update my living room. It’s time. Paint, because I have an accent wall (current red*how 2002) and I want to change the color of to brighten it up. De-clutter because we have too many little trinkets and really only a few great accent pieces. I am also looking forward to making a reading spot, getting rid of our warn out love seat…. You get the picture!

Not, a 100% redo but, baby steps to get me there. Today I’m sharing some ideas, inspiration and the first piece to my living room makeover. To be honest when I first started looking I really wanted a floor rug. Why? Because I have wood floors and tile. I thought it would be nice to have one in front of the fireplace area.

Perfect for when our little grand kids come to visit or anyone wants to lounge on the floor. Here’s the deal, I decided to put that piece on hold for several reasons. Our living room is super dark most of the day. Which means at night it’s darker. I have a large ceiling fan with a light but, it isn’t adequate for reading, sketching or working on my cell at night.

The second reason I passed on that right now is pets. I can see them using it more than us. Mostly because it would be place in a high traffic area to the slider door/dog door. I know another spot would be better. Plus I want to see which love seat (or even new sofa set) I end up with! Color / balance and design are all key factors for picking out the rug or any home décor.

I spotted several accent pieces over at Jerome’s Furniture Store my fist pick was the most expensive, most beautiful. See pictured below. Thank goodness Jerome’s had more home décor accents to pick from in the budget. I’m like a magnet to pretty and expensive! Some how I always find something I’m totally in love with but, might not be the right price for us. Home Decor Living Room Reading Area

I picked a home décor lamp that I thought would suit our home décor not only now but, later. Bonus, it was more affordable. Yet just as stylish! I’ll share it in a minute.

Do you ever spend hours looking at home décor online or visit shops? I am totally in love with dreamy homes and décor blogs. If only I can make mine look half as good! Is that you too? If we can just finish and not haves ours look like a construction zone in the kitchen/bathroom. Have a prettier work space. Un-clutter a few messy spots. Add in a few key new pieces of home décor. Total happiness! Bonus, better living/working environment.

What areas of your home are you ready to dress up? Spruce up? Or totally revamp?? I ended up choosing this Alta Walnut Arch Lamp from Jerome’s. Even prettier in person!

  • This is before just after assembling in our dark living room space.

Our living room during the day when it’s mid morning – noon. It’s pretty dark and of course at night super dark near the couch as we don’t typically use our ceiling fan light, it’s got a frosted white cover. Prior to taking off the shades protective cover. Excuse my pet’s messes, a typical Sat. morning pre chores in my house. My bull dog loves carrying around his sleeping bag for the cat to lay with him. And they go in and out a lot.

Now here’s the after with a pretty accent light/ making the perfect reading spot. The sun shines through the slider / dining room window during late afternoon. It’s the only time of day that we have any natural light in the room. And I bumped exposure for the photo.

Here’s a close up of the pretty lamp we got from Jerome’s furniture. I like that this piece has an easy dust layer on the inside. It’ doesn’t show when looking at it. I’m just shorter and this happened to be the angle I caught for the photo. Dimensions are: 74.75-80.5×47-57 And even closer below so you can see the shades pretty weave.

Here’s a close up of the Walnut wood / metal of the accent lamps stand. It’s even prettier in person! Below is the unboxing and part of how we assembled the lamp. It did come with a small tool but, we ended up using one of our own. It was packaged really well but, the Styrofoam was a little messy. Typical of packaging.

The assembly was a bit tricky just to line up the electrical cord properly but, if your handy you just follow the instructions it’s very doable. We had it together in less than an hour or about? I didn’t actually time it. If your looking for new home décor, accent pieces or other furniture you might consider checking out Jerome’s online or in there stores located throughout southern CA.
