How To Decorate A Grapevine Wreath With Felt Leaves and Flowers
We have spotted so many grapevine wreath ideas on Pinterest. But, we were inspired recently to decorate a grapevine wreath with felt after reading a new craft book we received. We are going to share the craft book resource and an adapted version, with the tutorial so you can make your own decorated wreath.
As mentioned, our grapevine wreath with felt leaves is slightly different than in the book, although we used some of the techniques. I also decided to add felt flowers to the wreath and a burlap bow to our DIY. When adding the felt flowers on that I made I ended up removing a few. I like the simple look. When making yours take creative license and make it the way you like.
The leaf wreath idea from the book is great because just by swapping out the colors of felt you can make it for any season you like, or match your home decor. I picked colors to go with our home decor and varied the design. Let’s get started with today’s craft project.

We decided to decorate our grapevine wreath slightly differently. I think it’s important to know that craft books are to share techniques and give you ideas, go get creative!
This book has all kinds of seasonal, fun ideas for creating and decorating wreaths. I can’t wait to try a few more wreath projects. The directions are easy to follow, written clearly and has plenty of photos.
Here’s how we decorated our grapevine wreath inspired by the book as a starting point. We started by ordering our supplies online. We will list them below in case you want to create a wreath like this or need any of the supplies. This post may contain affiliate links, at no cost or price change to you. We like using a good quality wool blend felt. We looked around at several and decided this pack of 8×8 wool blend felt 
would be perfect for some of our projects and today’s DIY Felt Leaf Wreath. This felt is great quality for the pricing. I have bought all kinds of felt for our felt projects.
Here are a few basic supplies for decorating a wreath
- Floral Paddle Wire
- Floral Wire Cutters
- or if you need both (Floral wire and cutter set)
- Scissors
- Tweezers
- Glue Gun
- Glue Sticks
For today’s project you will also need these supplies
- Wool Blend Felt (comes with embroidery thread)
- An embroidery sewing needle if you are making flowers
- Burlap Wired Ribbon
- 12-inch grapevine wreath (I used a 12 inch) or 18-inch grapevine wreath

How to make felt flowers
Cut your felt square in half, and again in half cutting them into smaller squares. As shown above.
How to make felt leaves
I just cut my felt leaves freehand but, if you need a template just search Google to find a free leaf template (6 free printable leaves) that you like.
For the flowers I looked at a few tutorials on Pinterest like this felt flower DIY but, ended up doing my own thing. I didn’t glue on the 6th circle and I added the center. For this you cut a long rectangle, then fringe cut the long side without going through the end. Roll felt and hot glue into flower, using tweezers.
How to make a wired bow for decorating a wreath
I decided to keep this simple and created a wired burlap bow, to add to the wreath. Keep the ribbon on the spool while making the bow. Start by folding the ribbon back and forth until you have at least 6-8 folds. This ribbon bow making tutorial might help, it’s slightly different.
Then wrap a long piece of floral wire around the center, tie it like you would at the beginning of tying your shoe and pull it tight. Next twist the wire around several times. * do not cut it from the spool until it is done and you have the two long tails. Then snip the wire.
Gently pull the bows open and create your bow shape. Using the two long wired ties wrap it around the wreath and attach it when you are ready.
Hot glue the felt leaves, your flower (or two) and burlap wired bow to your grapevine wreath. Or use the book below to make one of many wreath designs.
