Banana Walnut Bread Recipe – This banana bread is made with chopped walnuts, and it is delicious. All you need is at least three big ripe bananas and baking ingredients.

Substitutions: If you don’t like nuts, you can omit them. Other chopped nuts you can use if you don’t have walnuts are pecans, or substitute the nuts for chocolate chips!
I enjoy making and baking recipes like this and these quick bread recipes. No yeast is needed for this recipe, and baking time is typically 45-60 minutes. I use toothpicks to test the middle during the baking process. The recipe is easy to make by hand using a baking spoon or using a hand mixer. Typically I make my homemade banana walnut bread by hand, especially if I am making only one loaf. The key is not over-mixing the batter.

You will need a loaf pan, nonstick spray, parchment paper, mixing bowls, measuring cups, measuring spoons, a knife, and a baking spatula. You will also need a masher or fork for mashing the bananas.
Banana Walnut Bread Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 Cups of Flour (all-purpose)
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1-1/2 teaspoons of Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon Cinnamon (depending on your preference)
- 1 cup of Sugar (white granulated sugar)
- 1/2 a cup of Butter
- 1 tsp. of Vanilla Extract
- 2 Eggs (whisked together)
- 3 Bananas large and ripe (about 1-1/2 cups)
The more ripe the better. When the bananas are getting dark spots on the skin. - 1 cup of Chopped Walnuts (1/2 cup for the batter and 1/2 cup for the top).
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350F degrees. And prepare the loaf pan and set it to the side until needed.
- Prep Time 15 Minutes
- Bake Time 50-60 minutes (See Number 9 bake time may vary by oven or altitude).
- Cool Before Slicing
- Measure and add to a large mixing bowl the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Slowly whisk to combine the dry ingredients and set the bowl to the side.
- Melt the butter in the microwaveable bowl.
- Whisk the eggs together in a small bowl.
- In a medium-sized bowl measure and add the sugar, butter, vanilla, and eggs.
- Mash the bananas (in a separate bowl) and add them to the mixture.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients. Add the banana mixture to the flour mixture by making a well in the center add and stir until combined well (don’t over-mix the batter).
- Next, stir in 1/2 cup of the chopped nuts. And scoop into a prepared loaf pan.
- Add the other 1/2 cup of chopped nuts to the top and bake.
- Towards the end of the bake, test the banana bread as it bakes. When the bread doesn’t jiggle and a toothpick or knife comes out clean it’s done.
- Let the loaf cool prior to removing it. Cut slices with a serrated bread knife and serve.
Recipe Note: Cool the banana bread with walnuts after baking for an additional 15 minutes. It can still be warm but, cooled down before removing it from the loaf pan and cutting.
