I thought I would share how easy this scrub is to make! I am calling my scrub Lemon Souffle. I picked that name because of the smell and looks of it, not to mention how it makes my hands feel so soft after using. Perfect for treating my hands after washing so many times, or gardening…which causes losing natural oils in the skin. Winter is the worst with all that dry heat. But, we also have dry summers where we live so I sware by using scrubs. Using them, along with lotions really help your skin. (PS you can find a few lotion recipes below too) They are soo good for your skin.

This salt scrub is perfect as a hand scrub or even to use as a body scrub in the shower.

 Salt Scrub

Supplies

The amounts will vary depending on how much you make. If you just want to make a small batch up to use for yourself right away that fits in a small jar use this beauty recipe. If you like it, increase amounts for making additional jars of the salt scrubs at one time.

DIY HAND SCRUB

Lemon Salt Scrub Recipe (Hands/Body Scrub)

  1. 1/2 cup olive oil
  2. 1/2 cup sea salt
  3. 2-4 slices of lemon
  4. Additionally, you can use a little yellow food-grade food coloring to add more color if you like.
  • Gather all your supplies and follow the directions below.

How to make Salt Scrub

Natural Beauty Tips |Lemons and sea salt for making a lemon scrub

  1. Measure and pour a half cup of olive oil into the blender
  2. Next, add the half cup of your coarse sea salt
  3. Cut the lemon into slices
  4. I started with 3 slices, but 4 was what I ended with for that lemony smell
  5. Blend all ingredients together

When blending you’ll just have to watch it. Mix it enough that all the ingredients are blended without over blending.

Making Salt Scrub Tips – Over blending the sea salt can make your sea salt too fine. You’ll want some grit to it, after all, it’s a scrub. If you do over blend it just crushes some extra sea salt and adds it in if you like.

Before/Now

I wanted to show you a before from when I made and shared the natural beauty recipe years ago *see the image in collage below. In the pint jar is the over blended scrub and with no food coloring. The brighter color has food coloring and is blended less giving it a coarser texture.

It’s totally up to you how you like your scrubs. Softer or a bit more course for hands, body vs. feet. Play around to get the consistency you like. I have found that pulsing the blender helps vs. just running it. The scrub is so easy to make you can’t go wrong!

After blending is done pour the lemon scrub mixture into a clean, dry jar. (this recipe makes about 1/2 pint)

How to Decorate Your Mason Jar

Supplies

If you use a mason jar you can cover it with pretty scrapbook paper. Especially if gifting the jar of scrub.

  1. Trace a piece of scrapbook paper using the lid for the template
  2. Then cut out the circle
  3. Next, insert the cut out in between the circle lid and ring screw top
  4. Add to the top of the jar
  5. Screw the Jar shut
  6. Use twine or ribbon or burlap ribbon around the top of the jar just under the lid
  7. Attach the scoop to the ribbon

Tada! It’s ready to gift or use!

Tips For Using Beauty Scrubs

When using scrub use a clean spoon or scoop. Make sure your hands are clean when using your scrubs. Remember don’t dip it back in after you touch your hands (especially if you have been gardening before using) this will help to keep any bacteria’s out and keep it from going bad.

Since this is a natural beauty product I am not sure of the shelf life. But, made in small batches and used quickly you won’t have to worry. I would think if you keep scrub clean 4 weeks max. You can inspect it visually and by smell. I’ve never had any problems.

  • Keep out of the direct sun.
  • Use a clean spoon for dispensing, to detour bacteria growth.
  • Note: Homemade natural beauty products shelf life will vary by the temperature, where you store the scrubs and other factors…
  • Store in a cool, dry space until ready to use the salt scrub.
  • Keep out of the reach of small children.
  • This is not edible, nor meant to be edible.
  • If giving this as a gift be sure to give recipient instructions for keeping, storing and using.

Please note this beauty recipe has citrus and salt if you have cuts on your hands you might like to try our Chai Sugar Scrub, Homemade Hand Lotion or Honey Body Lotion. Which also are great for adding oils and rejuvenating your skin.

This spring I want to grow some rosemary to make some other scrubs. Rosemary has healing agents in its oils. I also want to try to make a salve as summers and winters are pretty dry here to help with healing working hands. This is so easy to do and if you purchase your olive oil in bulk or on sale it isn’t costly at all.

I have a few resources for homemade beauty products and gifts.

How to use salt scrubs

  1. Wash hands (and or body) prior to using
  2. Use a scoop and add salt scrub onto clean hands
  3. Wash hands or body with the scrub (do not over scrub or srub too vigorously, this will cause skin irritation)
  4. Rinse off the scrub (oils will remain on the skin)
  5. Dry off with a towel
  6. Rub or let excess oils soak into the skin. (this is how it helps your skin rejuvenate)
