Wedding Pinterest Board About Flowers

Dear Creatives, Yes it’s Thrifty Tuesday but, I thought I would slip in a post about just winning a contest. & how you can still share your wedding inspiration although the contest is over. April was all about weddings at the Flower Factory & they invited brides and wedding dreamers to share their Dream Wedding Pinterest boards, which is what I did. Now some of you know I don’t write this blog under my real name I reserve that for my art blog which I am going to be redesigning soon & getting a new address for, along with updating but that is a whole other story for later. {choosing wedding flowers & flower tips at end of post}

Any way, I have always loved beautiful flowers & photography not to mention pretty weddings. There has been many back to back these past few years of friends & family. How could I not be inspired by what is out there in blog land & on Pinterest. So I thought I would  give it a shot, take a moment & enter the contest. To my surprise I won! Yes, my curated board was chosen.

Click to enlarge & don’t forget to visit to enter your Wedding Inspiration board

Of course I am a bit honored 50 others entered & it was chosen by floral professionals! ( The 4 others spotlighted have great boards too) I thought I would give you a peek at the article & a link to finish up reading & enter your own wedding pin boards if you have one!! Just leave a link to your board in the comments along with your name.

When it comes to wedding flowers it is important to pick your colors ( but, be flexible ) know what is in season (so you don’t have to spend a fortune!) be able to share your vision with who is creating your designs. Even be willing to have a trial run or mock up done of an arrangement. Price out your items to keep in your budget. If you are doing the floral arrangements yourselves be sure to purchase from a local grower if you can or go to the floral mart.  & if you don’t know much about flowers hire a florist by getting a recommendation & interviewing, along with pricing. I have a few other tips maybe I’ll try & put them into one spot for you! Until then check out AboutFlowersBlog.com

Before you go today: Be sure & enter the giveaway! Time is running out! & link up if you have any Earth Day & beyond “Green” posts, I ‘d love to see what you have.

One thing I love is gardening & there is no time like the spring to get back into my garden. So I decided to visit Dig, Drop, Done. It is the perfect website for gardening where you don’t have to be an expert! How you ask? Well, let me tell you they have a simple to use interface with subjects like ready to learn, ready to plant & with plenty of resources in their drop down menu!

I love how they have a bulb calendar, along with a planting chart. The chart takes all the guess work out of planting as it tells you exactly what season to plant, how deep & how much space to plant your bulbs. When I was there it reminded me how easy bulbs are to plant in the garden. I loved seeing the beautiful of flower bulbs & other bulb inspiration visit www.digdropdone.com to learn more.

I love the bulb inspiration page among others where you can even get potted gift ideas, along with ideas for interior / exterior planting & entertaining activities. They even have a set of videos that are funny I guess you could say I have a bit of Juliana in me, but you’ll have to see the videos to know what I am talking about.

Choosing Flowers & Cut Flower Tips

California Grown Roses

Thank you to California Grown for encouraging me to connect with California growers and encouraging California consumers to “Choose California Grown” when they can.

For every birthday, family gathering, wedding & holiday I go out to my local farmers market or grocery outlet to buy CA. Grown flowers. It isn’t just they are pretty flowers but I see the impact of purchasing CA grown flowers first hand, living on the Central coast of CA.

California Grown Roses

We are in & next to the heartland of our growers; who in turn help support the people working for them & the vitality of our area. Its a win, win! Because when I buy CA Grown flowers & products it supports CA. And it supplies me with the freshest, prettiest flowers & produce I could ever imagine! This is why it is important for me to purchase CA. grown. I always look at the labels at my grocers. If I can’t find CA. grown I can always ask my grocer & so can you!

For this past holiday it was no different, along with the desserts I made I also took the time to arrange some beautiful  CA grown roses to bring my hostess. When I was offered the chance to get closer to my growers I was so excited. I have used many local CA. Grown suppliers when creating special arrangements for various events. The best part of all this is getting to know my suppliers first hand & now you can too by watching this video about my supplier. You will love her story as much as I did. I promise!

You don’t need to live in CA. either to help support our local growers, but if you do you should buy CA. Grown & help our economic vitality!  All you have to do is check the labels, ask for CA. Grown & purchase those products to support our CA. Growers whenever you can!

Did you know that 75% of cut flowers are grown in the state of CA & CA is home to 250 flower farms?

Trim off stems with a diagonal cut

Here are a few  basic tips from me for when you purchase & arrange your flowers:

  • Cut off leaves that would be in water & cut bottoms of stems at a diagonal
  • Use cold water & flower food changing often
  • Keep cool & out of direct sunlight
  • To straighten any slouching flowers, when extending their life, use 21-22 gauge floral wire insert into base just below the flower petals & wrap remaining down & around the stem
  • Think beyond the vase;  use jars, tins, tea cups & tea pots  there are many great alternatives to using a vase.
  • Visit CA. Growers to view more arranging tips
